When can we give the baby chocolate?

little baby eat cake

Chocolate is a food that we adults usually love and that is, who does not like enjoy a good chocolate? Without a doubt, it is a luxury to eat that you have to know how to eat in moderation so as not to gain more weight than necessary, so as not to have too much fat in the body and so that it can also be enjoyed (you like little and how tired you are!) .

But how is a food that we like so much that we immediately wonder when would be the ideal time to give the little ones in the house a try this delicious delicacy. And it is that chocolate is something that any baby can like but we are not always informed of when chocolate can be given to our babies (no matter how much they like it!).

Currently there are different types of chocolate and it is appropriate to know them to know which is the best for the baby and also to know when is the best time to drink it.

Chocolate powder

Powdered chocolate is a very easy-to-digest sugary preparation specially designed for babies, it does not contain fatty ingredients like the ones in chocolate bars that are too high. Powdered chocolate is what the little ones in the house usually consume and even when they are not so little.

Drink with chocolate

From 12 to 15 months

It will be after 15 months when babies begin to reject some foods and it is more difficult for them to drink milk alone if they do not like the taste too much (especially for formula milk). In this case it can also be a very good solution to give the child some milk with powdered chocolate.

Chocolate in tablet

Tablet chocolate is a mixture of cocoa butter, sugar and natural cocoa (depending on the type you can find from 40 to 80% cocoa). Cocoa has interesting properties and it also provides many minerals such as potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, iron and B vitamins such as vitamins B2 or B9 and it can even have certain amounts of fiber.

But you also have to take into account that it also has a substance that is too stimulating for children called theobromine. This substance exerts a very stimulating action on the nervous system.

Do not give chocolate until two years have passed

Chocolate bars or another type of chocolate in food is best not given to children until they are two years old. The same happens with molten chocolate that is used in desserts or cakes since it is much higher in fat content and therefore costs more to digest.

From the age of three

It will be from the age of two and a half and even from the age of three when you can start giving chocolate mousse or pieces of fruit dipped in melted chocolate. It is something that children love and you will also be promoting the fruit intake. And when the three years have passed, you can enjoy desserts and cakes, but always in moderation!

So can I or can I not give the baby chocolate?

At this point you may already know whether or not you should give your baby chocolate, but if you have doubts do not worry because then I am going to talk a little more about this topic since you have to take one more thing into account : the caffeine.

drink chocolate bar

Chocolate contains small amounts of caffeine and although adults do not bother us or even know it, it is very important not to give your baby caffeine, because any amount could cause negative reactions.

As I have told you before, chocolate also contains stimulants and also, together with the sugar combined with the milk fat, it can be a cocktail that is difficult for the baby to assimilate. And considering how I told you above that it also contains theobromine, even for adults it can cause a stimulating effect! So imagine for babies or children who are too young.

In addition, giving chocolate to the little ones would also be giving them anandamide, which also stimulates the brain. Therefore and for these reasons it is better that you keep your children away from chocolate at least until he is two years old. Before this you can give it, as long as the pediatrician does not tell you otherwise, the powdered chocolate to sweeten the milk.

How can it affect your baby?

In general, babies under one year should avoid chocolate at all costs and if it is for babies under two years old, the better. Especially dark and milk chocolate because they contain the most caffeine. As we have said before, one way to affect children is by being a stimulant.

When they pass one year of age they can taste small amounts of white chocolate It contains less caffeine, but the high sugar content makes it not a suitable food for a baby.

It could also affect your digestion making it heavy or even causing negative and painful effects. It could even cause tooth decay that could affect your future teeth.

It is better that you enjoy your chocolate bar and that you wait until your child is old enough so that he can enjoy the chocolate with you.

Modified post: A small correction has been made in the section 'From 5 or 6 months' where it was stated that it was possible to give powdered chocolate, but after contrasting the information we have realized that it is not correct. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Hello carmita..because you don't buy precooked little blood that they sell in the supermarkets, add them..fries garlic paste with the smallest possible pieces of onion and add the little blood, wait for it to cook and then when it is ready, you can sell it an egg or two so that It is made like scrambled blood, believe me the egg spreads a rich aroma that makes the babies eat it and also the little blood is good for anemia ... you might also give orange juice with boiled egg ... the orange with the egg yolk They are good for iron absorption .. you could also give beet juice with milk and a little sugar, the beet is good for absorbing iron too, which is the main channel of hemoglobin .. greetings

With six months it is too young to take chocolate or derivatives. All the best.

Even it is too small for this mixture, it can give you some abdominal pain or be difficult for the body to digest and put your liver to work.
