Learn in summer (without doing homework)

Girl doing homework

There are many parents who during the summer worry about their children doing cards and homework, thinking that in this way they will not forget everything they learned during the school year. They think that if they don't, it seems that the little ones will forget to read, write, add or subtract ...

But in reality, there are many ways to learn that it has nothing to do with sitting around making index cards with a pencil and eraser… and that is just as important!

Summer vacations are to rest and children deserve to be calm and relaxed to recharge the energy they need for the arrival of September. In September they will have time to do homework and follow the school routines that will begin. But summer is long and outdoor games should be a priority at all times. Leisure plans and being with the family comes first but this does not have to be at odds with reading or reinforcing knowledge acquired during the course.

Here are some activities to empower your children during the summer without having to sit at their bedroom desk making index cards non-stop:

  • Math. Go shopping with the children and have them count the money and pay, make food with them following the instructions, handle weight and distance measurements. Board games that enhance math.
  • Language and writing. Write a holiday diary, write postcards for family members for the summer, read stories in a family reading corner, write your own stories to read later to others, create comics, dictate and review spelling, to help you write the list of the buys. etc.
  • Foreign language. See the pictures in the foreign language, listen to and sing songs in that language, use board games and other activities to enhance that language.
