Teach your children to imagine their success

make changes to be happier as a family

If children learn to visualize their success they will be able to achieve it, because… if you can imagine it, it can be achieved! To do this, parents must teach children to feeling anguish or discomfort when mistakes are made is normal, but it is necessary to learn from them in order to move forward.

During an anxious moment, the brain tends to focus on all the possible negative outcomes of a situation. In the span of seconds, you can easily rack up every possible worst-case scenario.

But, just as our minds can make us worry and feel sick, they can also help us feel stronger and provide comfort. If the brain is powerful enough to evoke fear, it is just as capable of producing positive energy, so it is necessary to teach children (and oneself) to be able to visualize the positive results ... to achieve them.

Guided imagery (the practice of creating calm and peaceful images in the mind) reduces anxiety. Visualization may be so effective because the brain cannot distinguish between a real memory and one that has been imagined. In fact, sports psychologists have been using visualization techniques to help athletes overcome performance anxiety for decades. Athletes who train by visualizing successful results improve their performance on the key day.

It is advisable to teach children to use visualization to prepare for an anxiety-producing event or any potentially stressful scenario. If you can visualize a situation, create a state of anxiety in your body and mind, and then practice in that state, it will be less surprising when the anxiety occurs once it is time for your performance. By teaching children to have mental rehearsals, they will feel more relaxed and confident in their ability to face any future challenges.
