Teach your teens to make good decisions

eating disorder in adolescents

Parents are the maximum references for the education of their children. When a son enters adolescence he will try to show that he has his own identity, although he is still in the process of searching for it. He will try to show that he does not need the advice or help of parents by taking refuge in the vast majority of times in his friends.

But the reality is quite different from how teenagers want to show it. They need guidance and guidance from their parents almost as much as breathing. And if there is something important in the life of any person, it is learning. Take decisions. Life is made up of decisions and therefore, parents should teach their children to take them through critical thinking.

Create a decision-making process for the future

The next time your child is faced with a big decision, he may feel anxious or stressed about making another mistake. To counteract this anxiety, consider putting a decision-making process in place so that in the future, your teenager knows how to act at all times.

All people and especially adolescents, should have a process to make complex decisions, this is defined as those that have significant consequences and require the analysis of several different factors before being made. For the decision-making process there are seven steps that must be taken into account:

  1. Identify the decision / problem. Be as clear as possible.
  2. Collect information that will help you in making decisions.
  3. Consider various solutions.
  4. Weigh the evidence for each possible solution.
  5. Make the decision.
  6. Take action on that decision.
  7. Review the decision once action has been taken.

Armed with this seven-step process, (hopefully) your teen can rest easy knowing that any important decision you make in the future will be well informed and carefully thought out.
