Word games for kids
- Word board. It is a very fun game for the whole family. Put different categories on a sheet of paper (film, food, animals ...) and choose a letter, for example M. Participants will have to put as many items from each category with the letter M until time runs out. Each word is a point, whoever has the most points wins.
- Chained words. It involves one saying a word and the next person having to say a word that begins with the end of the previous one. This game will help you form new words that you may have heard but don't know how to spell.
- Forms words. It is about having the letters of the alphabet separately and that the child creates words with the letters. We can also put a drawing on them and have them complete the name with the letters. This game is better for children over 5 years old.
- Riddles. Those of a lifetime. They will use their intelligence and logic to find the answer, and they will learn word games. They will work on understanding new vocabulary and the different categories of words.
- Alphabet soup. It has to be adapted to the age of the child. The best thing is that they are word searches Theme (animals, food ...) to make it easier for them to find the hidden words.
- Anagrams. It consists of moving the letters of a word or words to get different ones. For example the word "phrase" can be transformed into "strawberry".
- Synonymous and antonym word games. It is about looking up an adjective and looking for its opposite word.
- Tongue twister. Also those of a lifetime. It is a resource where children practice words orally and memorize them.
- Educational cards. Cards where a drawing of the object / animal or person appears and with the word below. In this way they will learn the basic vocabulary visually, making learning easier for them.
- Guess the word. One person thinks of a word and the others have to guess what it is through questions. You can only answer yes or no to the questions, until one of the participants gets the answer right.
- What word is left over?. A series of 4 or 5 words are written, where only one of them does not correspond to the subject of the other words. For example: strawberry, banana, pear, apple and potato. The potato is not a fruit so that word would be unnecessary.
With these games, in addition to spending fun time with the family, children will learn new words, understand their different meanings and when to use them. You can also teach them a new word every day and throughout the day put that word into sentences to consolidate their knowledge.
