What are eating disorders?

Eating disorders, or eating disorders, They are mental disorders that are characterized by having a pathological behavior towards food intake, in addition to an obsession with weight control.

Eating disorders can have various origins, being the causes of biological, psychological, family and / or sociocultural origin. They are a group of diseases that end up having very negative effects on both the physical and mental health of the person who suffers from it.

What are the diagnosed eating disorders?

Undoubtedly, those who are most known socially are anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. There are also others such as Binge eating disorder, orthorexia (obsession with healthy food) and vigorexia (obsession with physical exercise).

If I have an eating disorder, can it be cured?

Yes. Despite being serious diseases, they can be cured if joint treatment is carried out with a team of doctors and psychologists who are specialized in eating disorders.

You must expect that they are long and complex treatments. A handicap found in these diseases is the lack of awareness on the part of the affected person. In other words, we mean that the affected person is not capable of identifying by himself the negative consequences of the disorder, nor the need for treatment nor the benefits it has.

This fact makes it difficult for the prescribed treatment to be very difficult to carry out in some cases. Here, The role of the family is very important in trying to make the affected person receptive to the treatment they need, even if they do not collaborate in the first hour to receive it.

As a mom you must maintain a positive image of yourself, look at yourself in a more benevolent way. Remember that we are the example they have. Create healthy habits and routines for both them and yourself, the more time you spend doing these routines with them, the more you will improve your control over your mind. Remember also to have certain exclusive moments for you.

Avoid having too many mirrors and scales at home. Make proposals such as not measuring a specific meal and if you do not meet that goal do not blame yourself, we are all people.

It is always good to ask for help from a professional, an association against anorexia and bulimia, group therapy, or a nutritionist.

I hope you liked this post and it has been helpful.
