From the third year of Compulsory Secondary Education and up to the age of 28, Spanish and foreign students with legal residence in Spain must pay the Mandatory School Insurance.
The fee to pay It has an amount of 1 euros and must be paid at the time of registration in the educational center, which will be in charge of processing it. The Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports contributes the same amount.
The entry into force of this insurance begins with the beginning of the course and ends when it ends.
What benefits does it have?
In case of a school accident, covers medical and pharmaceutical assistance. It also covers surgical intervention in a public center of the National Health System or in a concerted or collaborating center.
This insurance carries financial compensation. If the student suffers permanent disability for the studies that have already started, the compensation would be an amount between 150'25 and 601'01 euros. If it is a great disability for studies or incapacity for the most basic acts, he would receive a life pension of 144 euros per year.
When it comes to a disease contracted by the student, the Compulsory School Insurance guarantees complete medical and pharmacological assistance. Likewise, it covers hospitalization, general surgery, neuropsychiatry, pulmonary and bone tuberculosis, and obstetrics. Physiotherapy, cobalt therapy, radiotherapy, artificial kidney and maxillofacial surgery are included.
The family misfortunes that hinder the continuity of the studies initiated by the insured are also covered. Thus, if the head of the family dies or the family's financial ruin occurs, the student will receive between 86'54 to 192'82 euros per year until they finish their degree without repeating any course.
Mandatory School Insurance does not cover damage to third parties. As the educational center is responsible for the damages suffered or caused by the students during the time they remain under their protection, it is the educational center who must have adequate insurance for these incidents.
Where are benefits requested?
The request for any benefit included in the Compulsory School Insurance must be submitted at the Social Security Information and Attention Centers of the National Institute of Social Security.
Along with the application, the DNI or the Family Book, passport, identity card, permit or residence card must be presented together with the receipt of the registration form stating the course, the subjects and the payment of the fee school insurance.
