Earth Day: no care without conscience

View of the earth

Earth Day is ending and reflecting a bit I wonder if it is not absurd that we dedicate a day to our «Mother», because yes, we have a biological mother (or at least a mother who has raised and cared for us) , and a great mother who is the one who shelters us and allows us to live in the conditions that we enjoy today ... and that by the way could change drastically, if they have not done it enough. Absurd because as they say "every day should be from Earth".

And speaking of reflecting, I remember one of the meanings of "conscience", which speaks precisely of a meaning related to 'clear and reflective knowledge about what surrounds us'. And this is precisely what I think we are missing: REFLECT (I'm being repetitive, I know 😉); because if instead of sending well-intentioned messages or so that it is known that we apparently knead our Planet, we should - I think - do an introspection to discover with which daily acts we could be harming the Earth, and with which ones truly caring for it.

Nowadays it is very easy to speak and communicate, thanks to the Internet and the diversification of information and communication media, what I am not so clear about is that it is so easy to change things ... and that would be in our hands. We complain but we don't act we protest but no one takes the step to modify a destructive socio-economic model. We are all responsible but in the end no one is to blame because we look at our navels and we do it well ("the one who does it badly is the neighbor", it would be missing more).

The fact is that whoever lives the least who lives trapped in a devastating consumption model, according to who has the most; hopefully we point to Capitalism and "oh, who has gotten us into this!", but who refuses to function like this? Who takes the step ?; "Who put the bell to the cat?" as they said in the fable 'The Congress of the Mice'.

The human being and his excesses

We have pets that we adore, although we don't care how other animals are treated in slaughterhouses, or how many species go extinct each year. We wash clothes made on the other side of the planet with ecological soap, by workers who work 17 hours a day in subhuman conditions. We went out for a walk in the woods on Sundays, but we ditched the plastic from the picnic on the beach on the first sunny day… And so everything.

"Oh what ... aren't we all like that?" Of course not, because whoever is not like the examples above, buys three smartphones a year, no matter where their (our) technological garbage goes.

Earth has been taking care of us for thousands of years

And now he is dying (although he hides it), and he already warned Miguel Delibes placeholder image. Will we be able to provide you with basic care? or better yet Is there someone with a conscience willing to change things at the root and setting an example for others to follow?

Today, for example, this review has been published, on the depletion of the planet's resourcesSometimes I think that we are so used to reading these things that it becomes an everyday thing and we do not care, although it should not be like that. In fact, it has been several months, even years that we have been warned that perhaps the Earth is already losing its ability to rebalance, and with it not only the health of many plant and animal beings would be put at risk, but also the lives of both 'kingdoms'.

Perhaps in a few hours, the alarm clocks will begin to sound, first in one part of the planet, then in another, and in another (while our "mother" makes her rotation), and we have a renewed and awake conscience that makes us act according to our principles, without fear and with a lot of love to everything that surrounds us. It is not only about preserving Life, but that we have no right to destroy what has been given to us.
