Last Thursday, Mario Garcés, who is Secretary of State for Social Services and Equality, announced the development of a strategy for “the demographic challenge”, within it, laws are foreseen that allow comprehensive protection to families (and also with the object of discouraging Alcohol consumption among minors). One of the projected measures is provide incentives to families with four or more children, who will acquire the category of "special" large families. But what are special large families?
There are two categories within these families: the general (up to 4 children), the special (five or more children), well, with the implementation of the measure, families with four children may also be considered special numerous. A large family is one that is made up of parents and a minimum of 3 children, who may or may not be in common (That is, each member of the couple can have a child from a previous union, and also a child from both, they would add up to 3, and they would have such a condition). Until the development of the legislation referred to by Minister Garcés, families with four children, whose income does not exceed 75 percent of the IPREM annually, will also have such consideration.
They are also considered large families:
- Single-parent families due to widowhood with 2 dependent children.
- Family units in which one of the spouses has a disability and has 2 dependent children.
- Families of one or two parents, with two dependent children, one of them disabled.
- Orphan situations (of father and mother) with minors (2 or more siblings) who are not dependent on a guardian.
- Siblings over 18 years of age (3 or more people), or two siblings (of which one must have a disability), who live together and depend economically.
I also want to point out that the right to be a large family It is only maintained in case of single status and being under 21 years of age, extendable (for studies or promotion to work) to 25 years. They must live with the mother, the father, or both, and depend economically (if they have their own income, and do not exceed the SMI, they depend economically). The acquired title of Large Family is maintained as long as one of the children meets the conditions, although it would only benefit him.
With this and other incentive measures for families, the objective of increasing the fertility rate is pursued Spanish (in 1,27 children per woman), and we must not forget that maintaining that figure will mean the loss of several million inhabitants in the next 25 years.
