Help children practice patience

Nobody likes to wait, especially if they are young children. Children want their needs to be known immediately. If you are raising young children you will know that everything is 'now', or 'now' so they do not get frustrated. That is why it is especially important for parents start teaching patience in the early years of your children's lives.

If you want your children to develop a tolerance for impatience (which is unpleasant for everyone) so that they don't misbehave or act impulsively, then you will need to learn some strategies.

  •  Make him wait. Don't do everything as soon as your child asks for something. Allow your child to wait for even a moment. Don't give him a juice right away, for example.
  • Tell him what you are feeling. Young children are not able to express their frustration at having to wait, so it is important to tell them what they are feeling so they understand and show praise when they show patience.
  • Practice activities that promote patience. Encourage your child to do things that don't yield immediate results, like doing a puzzle, planting seeds, and watching the plant grow over time. Make sure that your child does not have only immediate stimuli such as when he is playing the tablet that offer immediate results with the push of a button.
  • Play turn-based games. When there are games and you take turns taking part, you have to work on patience while waiting for the turn to be able to continue playing. Games as classic as Ludo or checkers are a good example, but there are many more.

When you work on patience from a young age, long-term results can be achieved and they will learn that patience can offer very pleasant and satisfying sensations.
