On vacation children have a lot of free time And although the summer season lends itself to a multitude of outdoor games and entertainment, there are times when we have to stop or stay at home.

But our little ones do not stop, they are inexhaustible sources of energy, so they are likely to get bored during those "rest" times. But don't worry, there are many activities to do with children in summer, to keep them entertained. Summer is also ideal for making crafts and letting children get stained, since we can have them in a swimsuit and not get their clothes dirty. That's why today I bring you this finger paint recipe and homemade modeling clay, ideal for them to play, experiment, discover textures, work on motor skills and develop their imagination and creativity in freedom.

How to make homemade finger paint and modeling clay

To prepare homemade finger paint and modeling clay, you just need to take a look in your kitchen. The ingredients are for everyday use or easily affordable.

Finger painting

  • Half a glass of cornmeal
  • Two glasses of boiling water
  • A glass of cold water
  • An envelope of neutral gelatin
  • Food coloring

Dissolve the cornmeal in three-quarters of the glass of cold water. In the remaining quarter glass of water add the gelatin. Mix the boiling water with the cornmeal and water mixture, stirring constantly. Leave it over medium heat until it boils again. When it acquires a fluffy consistency, add the gelatin with water. Separate it into small containers, let it cool and add a few drops of the chosen coloring. You should keep the mixture in the fridge.

Homemade modeling clay

  • Two cups of flour
  • A cup of salt
  • Two tablespoons of oil
  • Food coloring

Put the ingredients in a container and pour the water little by little until you get the desired consistency. You must knead until it does not stick to your fingers.
This clay can be preserved for a while if you wrap it in plastic and store it in the fridge. It can also be put in the oven to preserve the figures made.

You can buy food coloring at the supermarket, but if you want your paint and your plasticine to be really homemade and ecological, you can use natural colorants such as saffron, turmeric, black or green tea, coffee, cocoa, beets, etc. If, in addition, you want to give the plasticine an aromatic touch, you can add an essential oil of the aroma you prefer.

You have the plasticine and paint ready for your children to have a fun morning or afternoon. Now it only remains to let your imagination and creativity fly.

Enjoy it!
