Being a mother is a wonderful experience. But after delivery, mothers spend several months with the baby and our social life totally fades. On many occasions, mothers miss being able to talk with other adults, because the parenting involves a certain social isolation, feeling of loneliness and also some anxiety about the care of a baby that depends totally on us.
But this can change, how would you like to have the possibility of going to the movies with your baby? And also go with other mothers who are in the same situation and they understand you perfectly... That's the "Tit session" and it's anniversary, because a year ago the idea came from a nurse from a health center in the Barrio del Pilar in Madrid and to celebrate it they have met in one of the cinemas in La Vaguada (Madrid) about 100 moms with their babies and have had Tania Llasera as their godmother.

Madres Hoy: How did the idea of the “boob session” come about? How often is it done?
Alicia García: On February 17, the first Theta session through Carmen Maderuelo, nurse from a lactation workshop at the Castroviejo health center near LaVaguada.

With this initiative, mothers were given leisure moments to share with their motherhood experiences, creating at the same time a space in which to forge new bonds of friendship.
MH: Was it easy for movie theater entrepreneurs to make up their minds? How did you get it?
AG: After Carmen spoke with a child ENT doctor, she went to theaters to talk to the manager, and she told him about this great idea. The cinema staff, he has always been willing to help us.
MH: How is it different from any other morning movie session?
AG: In which the room is adapted for the baby in sound and temperature. Also, it does not matter if a baby cries and a mother has to get up to calm him down and if he cries too much, leave the room and go back inside. Always respecting others.
MH: Are the needs of the baby taken into account, are there specific conditions of temperature, light or sound volume, for example?
AG: They adapt the room to the temperature and sound to be suitable for the baby.
MH: Is it only for moms or can they come accompanied by their partners or relatives?
AG: They talk about moms, because we are the ones who normally take leave and spend more time with the baby, but there are also dads who are in this situation, and of course they can come. Of course They can be accompanied by whoever they want. The person who accompanies them, they have to know that they are not going to a normal movie, with loud sound, and without noise, if not, that everything is conditioned for the well-being of the baby.
MH: Does it improve the mother's postpartum recovery in any way, what does it mean for her mental recovery?
AG: Although not enough is said about this topic, there is a loneliness that invades mothers in the first months of motherhood, when the baby depends on them 24 hours. Moms hardly have a social life and their whole life is the baby. That is why it is important to have escape routes to disconnect.
MH: Do mothers repeat, do they create friendship between them?
AG: Yes, most mothers who go to a session tend to repeat. If they see each other, almost every week, in the end a bond is created and they begin to talk and even have a drink at the end of the session.
MH: How do children spend it? Do they pass the session calmly or do they get nervous with the passage of the projection?
AG: Babies, at this stage, are most interested in being in the warmth of their mother (or the person who takes care of them the most), to eat and sleep, so these babies, they usually spend the session as if they were at home.
MH: How do you value the experience, would you do it again? Do you value the possibility of introducing any change in the operation?
AG: The experience is great!l! Sure i would do it again. In fact, one of the moms that make up the boob session group will be at it again at the end of August, and she is looking forward to going to a boob session again, since her baby is now 18 months old, and she, by the age of Baby, you can barely go to the movies now.
MH: How is it advertised? How can mothers be informed of the day and time of the “boob session”?
AG: We are trying to get each cinema to put their tit session on their page and for this session to be one more session, but until now and until we get it, all that is reported is through Facebook. We talk to the trough, and if there is no request, they propose movies, the best that can regulate the sound for the baby. Of the rest of the cinemas, we publish all the information that they send us so that it reaches all the cinemas in Spain. This would be fantastic, and something that would make Carmen very happy.
According to Christophe Edeline, director of the cinemas of La Vaguada, the only restriction is that no horror or action movies are shown, to avoid sudden sound changes and not exceed 65 decibels, while the usual is 100. The session also has reduced price (€ 6).
