We always read yes and, most of the time, if we talk to someone that we have contractions, their first question will be "Do they hurt?" ? This was a big mistake on my part, that as first time I had no idea and I let myself be guided by women who have already had more than one child, thinking that they would labor contractions, which ones are not or when should I be concerned or not.
From my own experience I can tell you that we cannot always be guided by pain. In my case I had contractions At about 4 months of pregnancy, they were regular for two hours and at no time did they hurt. Not feeling pain did not worry me too much, but still I went to ask a relative who has had three children and she asked me the classic question: "Do they hurt?" At no time did anything hurt so he told me "Well then don't worry."
Hearing this from an experienced person, I did not give it too much importance, I finished my dinner and slept as usual, but still the next day I went to the gynecologist, just in case. He examined me and saw that I had erased the neck of the uterus and that she was dilated, fortunately those contractions stopped after two hours, because otherwise she could have given birth that same night and, taking into account that she was only about 4 months pregnant, she would have lost the baby.
From there I had to start keeping absolute rest to prevent this from happening again and since then I have been taking treatment to prevent the contractions from returning, which I still have, but at least for the moment they remain more or less controlled and I hope to reach at least the 35th week of pregnancy. Therefore, if you have contractions, always look at:
- How often are they: If they occur on a regular basis, every 5 minutes for example, we should be vigilant.
- How many are happening: If you have only had three, even if they were every 5 minutes, no problem. The time to worry is when you have five or more at regular intervals.
- How long they last: In my case, the last one lasted 15 minutes, I thought that being so long it would not be worrying, but just the opposite, it is the one that made me dilate the most.
