More hours connected than in class

Children with mobile phones

Although it sounds unreal, it is the truth, adolescents today spend more time connected to the Internet, whether on the computer, mobile or tablet than at school. According to a study called "Hyperconnected family: the new landscape of learners and digital natives", makes it clear that adolescents between the ages of 12 and 17 connect to the Internet 1.058 and a half hours a year, 4 and a half hours of the time they spend in secondary school classrooms.

Children from 5 to 11 years old spend no less than an average of 711 hours and 45 minutes online per year. Adolescents therefore spend two hours and 24 minutes connected a day on average, although 26% make it clear that they can easily spend 3 hours a day.

Parents are becoming more and more concerned about the time their children spend in front of the screens, but first they should realize the example that they set for their children in terms of the responsible use of technologies. Parents spend more than 3 hours a day online ... and many of them admit their addiction to mobile phones. It is a dependency that becomes dangerous, especially when you are behind the wheel.

To turn off the dependency, it is necessary to turn off notifications, activate airplane mode and set hours of use. In this way, you can increase family time and also enjoy your children more without depending so much on your mobile. Be a good example for your children and you will realize that little by little, they will not need to have their mobile phone in hand all the time.

Remember that it is not about prohibiting the use of technology, because making good use of it has nothing wrong. Simply educate in knowledge and responsible use so that the time they dedicate to using new technologies they know how to do it efficiently.
