Recovery tips for a cesarean section

post-caesarean section

Many mothers prepare for the day of delivery, they watch YouTube videos, they go to prepartum classes, they know what to do to breathe and to push, they also know how postpartum care should be ... but What they are not prepared to do is go through an emergency cesarean section.

We women are so used to hearing that thousands of moms have to undergo cesarean sections every day in order to bring their children into the world. But when it comes to going through one, things change. In addition, many times we forget something much more important too: a cesarean section is major abdominal surgery and requires specific care to be able to recover properly. Although your doctor will give you specific instructions, do not miss the following tips.

  • Doctors send you pain medications because they are necessary, you must take them even if it does not hurt.
  • Do not gain weight, do not stretch, or anything that is trying too hard. You must rest until the doctor considers that you are better.
  • When you have to cough, sneeze, and even laugh, press a cushion against your stomach.
  • Drink enough water to be hydrated and not thirsty (8 to 12 glasses of water is ideal), you will also have to eat healthy foods that prevent you from getting constipated or having gas.
  • Go for a walk every day.
  • Sleep with the baby in bed or with the crib very close so you don't have to get up.
Buy a high-waisted girdle or panties to protect your incision.
  • Always keep the incision area clean, do not scratch if it itches, if it looks good it is because it is healing.

If you do everything correctly and you notice that something is not going well, do not be afraid and ask for help whenever necessary. Don't take more pain than necessary.
