In parenting, options are a necessity that must be taken into account. Children need closed options to feel safe. The options are alternatives that parents give so that the children feel that they are in control of the situation, but in reality it is the parents who are guiding them towards the correct option (because the options that they offer them will always be correct).
On the other hand, if the child is given an option that is too wide and open, he or she will feel too lost and will not know which option should be correct. It's hard to fight someone who has some control in life, But parents have this role to make sure their children are okay.
Also, when children are given options, you are teaching them a strategy to prepare them to make constructive decisions when you are not there to tell them what to do. Not all things are negotiable, but in others, you can be somewhat flexible.
All options will be acceptable. Do not ask your children to choose between what you want and what they want, you cannot offer them eggs or chocolate to eat. Instead of giving him options, give him two options that you really accept, like telling your child; 'What do you prefer apple or plain yogurt for dessert?' Or maybe also; 'Pick two tasks from the list and I'll do the third.'
It is also important that you keep in mind that reminders are useful and different from scolding. Leave notes so your children will remember what to do, like hanging towels in place or putting dirty clothes in the hamper. Children better remember what they see and will feel it as a valid option that they have made themselves
