Using tablets at school, right or wrong?

tablet in class

They do not do it in all schools, but in many of them tablets have already been incorporated into the classroom so that students begin to work through new technologies as normal. Although as in everything, this can have its good side, but also its negative side.

In many classrooms there is no traditional blackboard and now they find the digital blackboard, textbooks are giving way to tablets. Although there are children who love this idea, it is not always the best option. They can actually be a great educational aid, but it is not a good idea to use them at any age and nor as a priority within educational teaching.

When children are young they need to interact more with the environment and enjoy movement and social relationships. You need a much more limited use of technology and control the time of use. When children are young, machines should be removed from their education, instilling values such as empathy and respect. Play and all that it entails in children is essential.

The use of tablets at school should be gradual, for example from 3 to 6 years old, it should not be used more than 1 time a week or every week, and only for educational use: pre-writing applications, reading, tactile learning ... with the goal of becoming familiar with the technologies.

In Primary it can be used as one more educational tool, but not the only one. They can be useful at any time to search for information but their use will always have to be supervised by the adult.

In Secondary, they tend to replace textbooks, but students should have the option of using tangible material if that is what they want, even if it is for study at home. Control is essential.

It is necessary to remember that tablets can be an element of distraction and that they lose the manual writing ability that should not be lost for the world ... It is very important to be aware that if used, it must be used with limitations and with a good teaching plan .
