Today is celebrated internationally, Family Day. A date marked on the calendar, created to raise awareness about the role of families as a basis for sustainable development.
For the United Nations, the family is the basic unit that constitutes society. Despite the fact that the family model has been transformed in recent years, the concept as such remains the same in its foundation.
To celebrate this day, we propose these activities to do as a family. A perfect occasion to strengthen family ties, and remind children of the importance of the family for their future and for society in general.
1. Letters to the family
Not many years ago we used the postal letter, as a method to communicate with family and friends they were far away. This had a special charm, when you write a letter you do it taking care of the calligraphy, the details to make it beautiful.
Today's children do not know what a letter is, since everything is done through emails or calls through the mobile. This could be a perfect occasion to teach children the thrill of writing a letter to a loved one.
Do not forget to ask the recipient for a response to that letter, so the children will also experience the excitement of waiting for it, and the illusion of receiving it.
2. Family battles
Sure there are hundreds of family stories that your children do not know. Even if you have told them the most important ones, take the opportunity to sit with them in a comfortable corner, prepare some snacks, and tell them things about when you were little.
Tell them about how were your favorite toysHow you spent your time with your family when you were little. The little ones will surely enjoy listening to those stories. And you can relive those moments, while you transmit your emotion to your children,
3. View family photos
Although it is more than possible that your children have seen the family photos, prepare a different activity with them. Propose that each choose two photos of all that you have at home. Not just the children, all the members of the family.
Afterwards, you will have to see all the chosen photos together and remember the day they were taken. Try remember all the details of that moment. It will be a nice way to revive things that may have been hidden.
4. Family tree
It is a fun craft to do as a family. Create together the genealogical tree of the whole family. Surely you have distant relatives, uncles and cousins that children may not know about. Try to remember what those relatives were like, and take the opportunity to look for similarities with the children.
They will have fun meeting the whole family and you will do a memory exercise. You can do it on a real tree, drawn on a cardboard. Children will be able to decorate the tree and can even draw a picture for each member of the family that appears in the family tree.
5. A family outing on Family Day
If possible, try to gather as many family as possible to organize an excursion. Surely you can hang out with uncles and cousins that you don't see very often. Children will be able to create new bonds with their less close relatives.
6. Draw your family
Each one will have to draw an invented familySurely the older ones will be inspired by your own family. But surely the children will surprise you with their wonderful imagination. Of course, receive those drawings with an open mind, because for children even a toy can be part of their ideal family.
The little ones will love doing these crafts as a family and you can enjoy the expressiveness of your children. Encourage them to explain who is who in that invented family, what role does he have at home and how they see people.
Maybe also be inspired by your own family, or maybe they will surprise you and encourage you to change certain roles that we have pre-established.
