Nelson Mandela said that "Education is the most powerful weapon that exists to change the world" and he was right. Education is the basis of progress, the foundation to form a society by and for all, where the rights of all are respected equally. However, the simple fact of acquiring knowledge is not synonymous with education. If there is no capacity for understanding, empathy, solidarity or generosity, we will not be able to be free. Those who are capable of putting education above all else, will be those who manage to change the world.
Why is education so important?
According to a report by UNESCO, "education is the fundamental basis for the well-being of peoples." Those societies where there is a high level of education, enjoy a better quality of life and they are capable of acquiring high standards of living.
How can improve people's lives receive a basic education ?, in all these ways:
- Women who do not receive any type of education or academic training throughout their lives are more likely to dying as a result of giving birth.
- In poorly formed societies there is a very high rate of infant deaths, something that has been reduced in those societies with a higher educational level.
- Mothers who have received some type of training, even the most basic, have a greater capacity to feed their children, in addition to a higher chance of survival.
- In societies where there is a higher educational level, the difference in salaries is smaller. What's more, the population is more supportive, tolerant and respectfulto the environment.
Why is educating your child so important?
In many parts of the world, education and training do not exist, not at least in the way we know it. Millions of boys and girls do not have the possibility of receiving an academic training, to help them improve your future and therefore achieve freedom. If you are reading this article, your children will surely be receiving this training.
It is easy to forget the importance of the things we have, especially when we have not had to fight to get them. It is easy to despise the value of what our ancestors achieved through struggle, demonstrations and strikes, so that future generations would have everything that they lacked. You may have never stopped to think about the importance of education for your children, beyond getting a good job.
