Gummies and children's health

Gummies and children's health

Almost all children love gummies, of course, if they are full of sugar, artificial color and substances that enhance that delicious flavor. All those substances, they are really dangerous to health and children are the main affected, since they are the ones who generally consume them. Fortunately, today we are more aware of how unhealthy gummies are, yet they are still being consumed in excess.

The negative effects of gummies

Most of the gummies that are marketed, they are basically made of sugar, saturated fat, unhealthy oils, chemicals and artificial flavor enhancers, among others. All this, terribly dangerous substances for health, especially for children who are in full growth.

Sugar in excess is the main cause of dental problems and many of the eating problems that affect children, such as childhood obesity. Candies contain what are called empty calories, to give you an idea we are going to make a comparison. A candy can contain around 100 calories, compared to 70 or 80 that an apple can have.

The difference is that, the apple contains a large amount of essential nutrients for the organism and the candy the only thing it has are those useless calories. As you can see, a simple innocuous looking candy can be really harmful to the health of your children.

And not only that, in addition to containing a large amount of sugars, candies and sweets in general contain significant amounts of sodium. Excess of this substance can cause important health problems such as, high blood pressure with the risk of chronic hypertension.

As for the saturated fats that gummies contain, there is a risk that the child will have high cholesterol. What increases the chances of suffering from cardiovascular problems, in addition to a significant risk of cerebrovascular accident (stroke), which is currently the leading cause of death in the world.

Should I ban candy?

Healthy jelly beans

More than a question of prohibition, it is about responsible consumption. If your children occasionally have a treat, nothing happens and you should not scream. However, consuming them daily or frequently increases the risk of suffering from all the aforementioned diseases. To avoid this, it is important that you explain to your children why they should not drink gummies in excess, as well they will be able to avoid them when you are not present.

You can even prepare some jelly beans at home completely healthy and in a very simple way. Involve the children in the kitchen to learn that eating tasty and healthy is possible, even if what they want to eat is jelly beans.
